  • Adding Images in Posts

In order to add an image to a discussion, you need to first have a url to the image. This means that you have to upload the image to somewhere on the internet.

One easy way to do this is to use www. www.postimage.com.

You need to upload your image (remember anyone can see the image by reading a posting here, or other methods). After you upload the image you need to copy the 'html' line and paste it into a discussion comment.

Here is the format of an image in html. (only needed if you do not use postimage.org)

      <img src="http://site.com/pictlink.jpg"/>

This forum does not use BBCode - rather it uses html.

  • Adding Link

You can add a link to a posting: Copy the template below, and replace xxx with the URL, and yyy with what you want to call it (which can be the same as the URL).

      <a href="xxx">yyy</a>

Leap and Yep store all tag data in files in your Application Support directory. eg: ~/Library/Application Support/Yep this means starting from your 'home' on your computer, go into Library, then Application support, then into Yep. You need to make sure that this folder gets backed up. To restore, you can try just replacing the whole folder or you can use the 'Import Metadata' command to import tags, etc from a previously backed up docInfo.plist.gz file on top of your existing data. The manual has more on this.

Yep has one more detail: If you track PDFs on other disks with Yep, Yep stores the tags and other data on that disk, in /Library/Application Support/Yep.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />I recently installed a new hard drive, installed a fresh copy of OS X (10.4) and am attempting to restore Leap from the old hard drive. I've copied over both my data files (mainly Excel) and the Application Support/Leap directory from the old hard drive. However, upon launching Leap, none of the files on the new hard drive are tagged. Oddly, when I mount the old hard drive as an external drive, the Excel files on *that* drive are tagged. Does Leap have any associations that are specific to hard drives/volume names/etc.?

When I check the files on either the old drive or the new drive, there are no spotlight comments (I have &quot;Read AND write tags from/to Spotlight comments&quot; unchekced).
  2.
Leap can track documents on external drives, the files on the new drive look like new files to Leap, so it is not moving the tags. You can get Leap to reassign the tags by:

    1) Quitting Leap
    2) UnMount the old external drive:
    3) Backup your Library/Application Support/Leap directory
    4) Run Leap
    5) In Leap, under the file menu, select 'import metadata' , pick the file docInfo.plist.gzip in your Library/Application Support/Leap folder. Leap will read your existing data, and when it can't find the files on your old hard drive (since it is unmounted), will assign tags to equivalent files on your current drive.

    Hope this helps,

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />Thanks for the quick response. I was poking around the docInfo.plist file, and I realized that my problem was that "currentPath" was outdated(?). I'm not sure if this makes any sense, but here's what I think happened:

    1) On the "old hard drive", I tagged some files in Leap
    2) Some time later, I renamed the folder that the tagged files were in (Leap was able to keep up with that folder name change, though I believe that the "currentPath" string still contained the older folder name)
    3) When I migrated to the "new hard drive", I copied over the (renamed) folder and Application Support/Leap. However, Leap wasn't able to figure out where the files were on the new computer until I renamed the folder back to the old name (the one that was listed in docInfo.plist)
    4) I can once again rename that folder and Leap stays in sync

Does this make sense? Is this how the file pointers are supposed to work? I'm wondering if you could explain how Leap keeps in sync with renaming and moving files. Thanks again!

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />The last guest asked a question on the 20th of Oct 2008, there has been no response from anybody at Customer service. Is this how we are going to be treated once we buy your products?
Gives me the jitters. Would think ten times before buying your products!

…there has been no response from anybody at Customer service
Some topics are addressed offline and the answers are not always posted.
I will also say that from a Customer Service standpoint, we are very responsive - much, much more so than many companies.

You are well within your rights to not purchase any of our products but I don't understand what you hope to accomplish by making such a declaration here.

<strong>Guest:</strong><br /><br />Have been burned in the past by buying expensive products and then no response from the Customer Service. I can name the companies - but it doesn't matter. I guess it gets my hackles up when I see an "un-adressed" query. Have been contemplating buying your products so I just wanted to be sure. I meant no offense but companies which are more keen to sell their products and then forget about their customers really, really make me mad.
A browse around your forums has made me realise that you are not "one of the above" and are actually quick to respond and Jan's endorsement surely helps :-)

I am reformatting my drive i.e reloading OS X.. I am using all the latest versions of your products (in trial mode).
I have tagged my files using a combination of Fresh, Leap and Tagit..
What are the steps that I need to complete to make sure that all my tags are available to me after I have re-installed OS X.

The OMTags should travel to a backup and back to your reformatted machine just fine but here's a few things you can also make sure of…

    1. Make sure you backup your ~/Library/Application Support/OpenMeta folder. This contains the .omback files that are sometimes needed if a file Save isn't preserving metadata properly.

    2. Backup your ~/Library/Application Support/Preferences/com.openmeta.shared.plist. This contains the Tags you've recently used and is optional.

    Good luck with the rebuild.

    Jim

PS: Thanks for the "retraction". I am very proud of how much we care about what we're doing and I hope it shows. Cheers!

Yep tracks PDFs where ever they are on your hard drive. These PDFs should be backed up as part of your normal backup strategy. In addition to this, Yep has a storage of all the tags, notes and URLs (collectively called metadata). It keeps this meta data in ~/Library/Application Support/Yep. Inside this folder are several items, but all the tags and notes are stored in one file, docInfo.plist.gz. The folders in your collections panel are stored in the file folders.plist. These are the two most important files to back up. Just make sure that you keep a backup of these files if you want to be able to recover tags after a hard drive crash. PDFs stored on external volumes such as firewire hard drives, network volumes, etc, have their tags and other data stored on that volume at: /Volumes/volumeName/Library/Application Support/Yep

    Welcome, markdala!

The OpenMeta backups (used for Tag restoration) are located in ~/Library/Application Support/OpenMeta/backups.noindex. Also you can select File > Backup Metadata… to create a large single file backup of your OpenMeta metadata. Cheers!

    HI Jim,

Thanks for the quick response. I do not seem to have the OpenMeta folder in the Application Support folder for some reason. I am wondering if you have any ideas about this. Also I am trying to find a way to share tags between users on various machines (possibly by storing the pictures on timecapsule or a local hard drive) is there any way to to something like this with Tagit or would I have to look elsewhere for that function.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Jim,

Just a quick note on the "backup metadata" option in the file menu. I clicked on it, and a dialogue box stated that how the backup would be dealt with, and that it was going to be a lengthy process. I decided that now wasn't the time for a lengthy backup, but was fairly frustrated that there was no "cancel" option on the dialogue box. Only an "ok" option. Even "quit leap" was blanked out on the file menu, so my only real option (other than "ok") was to force quit leap (which I did). It seems a bit silly to warn the user that they're in for a long process, but give no way to back out of it. I'd recommend a "cancel" option there.

    Cheers,
    eomat
